The Best Peloton Seat Cushions of 2023 to Make Any Bike More Comfortable

Editor's Note: On May 11, 2023, Peloton issued a recall of seat posts on original Bike models sold in the US since January 2018. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has more about the recall and how to get the replacement part here. Members are advised to stop riding until they receive the replacement part.

Throughout a ride on your Peloton or stationary bike from Amazon, you're bound to experience plenty of "hurts so good" feelings. Your triceps will burn while you power through a round of handlebar push-ups. Your heart will beat faster and faster as you push through a sprint. Your quads will quiver as you crank up the resistance to get up a hill. And when you're done, you'll ultimately feel even stronger than you did before.

But there's one thing that can be a total buzzkill during and after your workout — it's literally a pain in the butt. A sore booty (which is likely from achy sit bones — the knobby pair of bones underneath your pelvis) from the rock-hard, too-small, or minimally padded seats that often come with nearly any stationary bike.

To make matters easier, start with strapping a bike seat cushion onto your Peloton (or any indoor bike, for that matter), which can soften the saddle and reduce the impact on your rear end. Plus, you can put these cushions on your road, folding, or mountain bike if you're planning on taking your ride into the great outdoors. (And if that still doesn't do the trick, follow this writer's lead and check out one stationary bike designed with comfort and stability in mind.)

To give your buns the support they need, shop these comfy Peloton seat cushions that have all gotten a stamp of approval from members themselves. (Don't forget to add Peloton dumbbells to your shopping cart, too.)

Why We Like It: The soft gel inserts and stretchy lycra material conform to the shape of your saddle.

It's Worth Noting: This does not fit wide bike seats.

Available in hot pink, neon purple, and three other eye-popping colors, this Peloton seat cushion will make you want to try out every upbeat, 80s-themed ride (and maybe add a blacklight to your workout space). The cushion has a stretchy lycra exterior, so it easily wraps around your bike's seat and stays put no matter how many times you get out of the saddle. Plus, it's made from soft silicone gel that conforms to your butt, keeping you ache-free (especially during hour-long workouts).

This Peloton bike cushion does tend to slip a little, even when it's cinched as tightly as possible. This distraction can cause discomfort and take you out of the moment during your rides. Also note: This cushion doesn't fit wide bike seats.

Why We Like It: It's designed with a pressure relief channel and an anti-slip interior surface.

It's Worth Noting: You'll need to pull the drawstring tightly for this Peloton seat cushion to stay in place.

As the best-selling bike saddle on Amazon, this Zacro Peloton seat cushion has a lot to live up to. And based on its comfort-focused features, it stands up to the hype. The bike accessory is made of soft gel to support your glutes, is easy to put on, and comes with a water- and dust-resistant cover to keep your saddle in mint condition. Plus, at under $20, it's a bonafide steal. The anti-slip surface, combined with an extra strap, keeps this Peloton bike cushion in place no matter how often you're in and out of the saddle. We also love that it comes in two sizes — small and wide — to fit multiple bike seat sizes.

If the Zacro has one downside, it's that you really have to crank on the drawstring to keep it in place. Take a few extra seconds before your ride to make sure this seat cushion is secure, and you'll be well on your way to a PR.

Colors: 4 | Dimensions: 11" x 8" x 1.2" | Material: Polyester and gel

Why We Like It: It's beyond easy to set this seat cushion up on your bike.

It's Worth Noting: The cushion may slide around.

If you're looking for a "set it and forget it"-style of Peloton seat cushion, turn to this option. The cushion is made from a comfy blend of silicone gel and memory foam and installs on your bike in just two easy steps. Plus, it has a non-slip bottom that helps prevent it from sliding around while you ride (although it's not fool-proof — you may still notice some slippage).

Either way, the ease of installation makes this bike seat cushion a great choice if you also like to take in-person spin classes or cycle at your local gym. You can easily stow the LuxoBike seat cover in your gym bag, place it on top of any indoor cycling bike seat, and quickly uninstall it when your sweat session is done.

Colors: 3 | Dimensions: 11" x 7" x 1.5" | Material: Silicone, gel, foam

Why We Like It: This bike seat cushion is 10 inches wide and super comfortable.

It's Worth Noting: It's prone to pilling.

If you have a wide bike seat (think: over seven inches), this Peloton seat cushion is sure to be a smart addition to your home gym. The cushion is a bit wider than others on the market, which will give your booty more support, and is made from a blend of conforming gel and soft foam. Even if you don't have a wide bike seat, the Bikeroo cushion might be a fit: It comes in sizes narrow, large, and extra-large. (The extra-large, FYI, is one inch longer and one inch wide than the large.)

Unfortunately, the polyester material seems prone to pilling. The material breakdown might be frustrating, even though this bike cushion is low-cost and easy to replace.

Why We Like It: The memory foam padding provides added comfort at crucial pressure points.

It's Worth Noting: This bike seat is designed for sport and road performance, not commuting or cruising.

This Peloton bike cushion may come from Schwinn, a major road bike producer, but it works just perfectly fine on spin bikes including the Peloton model. The Peloton bike cushion is made of memory foam, which will help relieve pressure on your booty while you ride, and has a lycra cover that will prevent your sweat droplets from soaking into the seat.

Just note that the product page might be a little confusing, especially if you're not yet an advanced cyclist. Schwinn offers bike seat cushions for cruisers (a casual bike that promotes an upright riding position), which wouldn't be the best fit for your Peloton, since you're riding bent over at an angle (which puts pressure on different areas of your butt). Instead, opt for the ones marked "sport seat."

Why We Like It: The mesh detailing adds extra ventilation.

It's Worth Noting: It's an extra-snug fit on top of the bike seat.

This Peloton seat cushion from Cevapro may look simple, but it packs plenty of beneficial features. The accessory has multiple layers of supportive memory foam and shock-absorbing gel, as well as a layer of lycra cloth to keep the seat dry. To curb your chances of developing swass (you know, sweaty a**), the bike cushion is designed with a "breathing hole" that improves air circulation. The cushion won't slip out from underneath you when you stand up out of the saddle, either; it's equipped with anti-slip nodules and two slightly elastic straps that keep the cushion in place while you ride.

While this cushion technically fits the Peloton bike seat, it's a snug fit. You may need to stretch the fabric a little bit to make it work. On the bright side, the tight fit means nothing wiggles or slides during rides,

After spending hours on our Pelotons and having the sore buns to prove it, we researched the most important features in a Peloton seat cushion, sourced the top product options on Amazon, and supplemented this with past interviews with Shape experts. Then, we spent hours poring over product details to determine the best of the best before narrowing it down to these selections.

If your standard Peloton seat cushion isn't cutting it, you're not alone. In fact, it's totally common to feel a little sore down there after your first few rides or after endurance rides—regardless of whether it's a Peloton vs. NordicTrack bike. But just because it's common doesn't mean it's normal, says Lauren Streicher, M.D., an ob-gyn and clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. If you've tried adjusting your seat, it's time to try a padded bike cushion, she advises. Peloton seat cushions are typically easy to slip on and off your existing bike seat, and they're made of soft, pliable materials such as silicone gel or lycra. They also may include anti-slip traction on the interior to keep the cushion in place.

The second you experience pain after a Peloton ride, it's time to change something. "Pain is never normal. It's your body telling you to stop doing something," says Dr. Streicher. If you've tried adjusting your seat and your handlebars, or you don't enjoy wearing padded cycling shorts, a Peloton seat cushion may be for you.

Standard-sized bike seat cushions will fit the cycling seat that comes with your Peloton. If you've swapped out the standard-issued cycling seat that came with your Peloton, make sure you measure your existing bike seat before purchasing (it'll likely be around seven inches wide) and buy a Peloton seat cushion that will fit those specs. Be careful not to buy a wide bike seat cushion unless you have a wide bike seat (around ten inches), as it will be too big and will slip easily.
