Adafruit.IO WipperSnapper now works with (some) TFT Displays! « Adafruit Industries – Makers, hackers, artists, designers and engineers!

We’ve released a new beta (beta 64) of our no-code IoT firmware, WipperSnapper, which includes support for the Adafruit ESP32-S2 FunHouse’s 1.14″ 240×135 Color TFT Display. If you’ve been using WipperSnapper on FunHouse, simply upgrade to the latest version (details below) of WipperSnapper and you’ll be greeted with a whole new user experience!

Technical Details (“in the weeds”): The display driver in WipperSnapper is powered by the versatile open-source graphics library, LVGL. A few years ago, we released Adafruit_LVGL_Glue, an Arduino library designed to provide “a layer between LittlevGL and most of Adafruit’s color TFT displays (anything that’s a subclass of SPITFT).” This means that WipperSnapper can support most of our color TFT displays in the future. We’ve done some work getting LVGL working with ESP32 as it was previously hanging/crashing when we attempted to use WiFi (crucial for any IoT project!) As always, we’ve made it simple to get up and running with this new feature. Grab your FunHouse development board and head to the New Board page on Adafruit IO. Select the FunHouse and follow the New Device Wizard to install or upgrade WipperSnapper:

ps: There’s more to come! Having this feature for the FunHouse means it’s now possible for us to integrate more displays of different sizes and shapes. We’re also working on new ways of interacting with the display from Adafruit IO.
