Leslie Co. car shop catches fire, two weeks later is robbed

HYDEN, Ky. (WYMT) - One car shop owner in Leslie County is looking for answers after his business caught fire then was robbed.

On Jan. 15, Double H Auto and Towing were destroyed with nothing salvageable, including a 4x4 wrecker they pulled inside to protect from the snow. Hog Ring Pliers Snap On

“Me and my uncle came down and by that time, the building was raging, we couldn’t save anything. We lost everything we owned in it. Ten years of tools, almost $400,000 worth of tools and equipment, our biggest wrecker was in there, we lost everything,” said owner Jesse Campbell.

He said they worked to open back up in a garage that is also on the property. They were able to borrow tools from people in the community. Campbell said they also purchased their tools to help them reopen.

However, just a couple of days after opening again, they were robbed.

“This hurt worse than the fire, getting robbed, they took everything. The tools you see now were tools we borrowed from people, we borrowed off people, we don’t any of this stuff. It’s just to get back again,” he said “We had just spent a little over 2,000 on the snap on truck, getting more tools back and they stole every single one of them, all of them.”

Campbell said the lock was cut and then replaced, something he thinks was on purpose.

“It wasn’t until later that we found this lock because they had cut our lock off and replaced it with another lock. So, it was very intentional, somebody put a lot of thought into it,” he explained.

He said they were able to find something that they hope can be used to identify whoever is responsible.

“They parked behind the building, there’s a shutdown sawmill over there and they parked over there and they walked behind the building and around, cut the lock off of it and packed everything around. We did find a little plastic piece that holds some picks,” said Campbell.
